The Great British Cup of Tea

A quintessentially British affair, afternoon tea became a ritual in the 1840s following the 7th Duchess of Bedford’s need to pep herself up in the afternoon as lethargy took hold. The solution was a pot of tea and a light snack and within aristocratic circles this became a popular tradition and intrinsically British.

The Beaufort considers Afternoon Tea a necessary luxury and with that in mind we have taken the unusual step of inviting all our guests to partake in a complimentary Cream Tea each afternoon.

Our pot of tea is served with delicious homemade scones using our own special recipe, with Thursday Cottage handmade jam and thick, dollopable, Cornish clotted cream. We have a choice of teas, including English Breakfast, Earl Grey, Green, Peppermint, Darjeeling and Chamomile. Served on bone china it really is a scrumptious treat.
